My brother and I both work in the same business.

Both of us actually followed in our dad’s footsteps.

The guy worked in the heating industry for thirty years before he died. He shoveled coal when he was only ten years old. My brothers listened to our dad tell us stories for years. We wanted to make the guy proud by becoming service professionals as well. My brother and I are both employed by the same commercial HVAC service provider. My brother got his HVAC certification the year before me and the next year the two of us started working at the same commercial HVAC service provider in Tampa bay. My brother and I got an apartment together in Tampa and we share the cost of rent and utilities. We also eat together most nights and we share the burden of cooking. My mom taught both of us to cook very well, so we can make just about anything in our kitchen. When my brother and I are not working on Commercial HVAC repairs and installations, we really like to spend time fishing in Tampa bay. Tampa Bay has many different species of fish including tarpon, redfish, snapper, and trout. The brackish water includes both saltwater and freshwater fish. Tampa Bay is also a great place to go fishing for black and white tip sharks. They are a really great fight and can often be a battle. There are also several different rivers and lakes in the surrounding area. There is no shortage of places to go fishing in Tampa.

I had Monday and Tuesday off work and I decided to go fishing with some friends.

I got a sunburn on Monday and I was happy that I didn’t have to go back to work on tuesday.

I tried to rest and relax as much as possible so my skin had a chance to heal. On Wednesday I was hoping that my boss would give me an easy schedule, but I had to spend the entire day in The Villages installing a residential heat pump and AC system. My boss was supposed to send a second technician with me to help with the residential heat pump and AC system installation job. When I left the office early in the morning on wednesday, my boss told me that Tony was going to join me that afternoon when I was getting to the installation part of the project. I knew it was going to take all day even if Tony came to help in the afternoon. At lunch time, my boss called and told me I should take an hour break and grab something to eat because Tony was running late. When I came back from lunch, the boss told me that Tony was not going to be able to help with the heat pump and AC system installation job in The Villages. I had to complete all of the work on my own and I did not get done with the job until 7:00 p.m. My whole body was aching and in pain by the time I was done. I had to keep lifting my arms and moving my legs and it was positively awful.

At the beginning of the pandemic, my husband decided that he wanted to take the family camping.

So, he rented an RV that was big enough for a family of 4.

I grew up in a big city but moved to Birmingham about 20 years ago. So camping is not something that I am used to doing or even enjoy. Plus, I don’t like being outdoors in the elements, especially during the Summer months, when the weather is hot and humid. On average the temperature in the Summer will rise into the 90s and the humidity levels are normally high as well. Trust me, it’s not pleasant, but thankfully, I have good air conditioning at home to find relief from the heat. And speaking of air conditioning, prior to renting the RV, I asked my husband if the RV has air conditioning because if I am going to be out in the woods, I need to sleep comfortably. He assured me that the built-in A/C would be adequate to keep us cool while we camped. If everything went well with camping, the goal was to invest in our own RV. Well, camping went ok, but the air conditioning was not the best. On the really hot days, the A/C barely kept us cool at night. The saving grace was that my husband purchased a fan for the rest of the time we spent camping. Because of the camping experience, we have yet to purchase our own RV, but the idea is not completely off the table because there are some really good campsites near Birmingham that we would like to explore.

When you follow a passion for art and creativity, there’s a good chance that you may have to sacrifice a steady, fat paycheck.

But for me, there really wasn’t much choice.

I spent four years inside the radiant heating from a boiler in the basement of my dorm building in order to find and pursue a passion. But all I was good at doing was the stuff that came from my heart with help from my head. I was no good at business. And the very idea of sitting inside some Indiana office with zone controlled HVAC the rest of my life was not at all appealing. I tried to be the dutiful adult and find a career path that came with lots of money. But I just couldn’t as it just never suited me. So I stuck with what I could do well and I’ve honed those skills ever since. I’m now actually making a living from my creativity. And it took nearly a decade of waiting tables and other day jobs for me to get there. I’ve been living in a small starter Evansville home that has no central air conditioning or any other amenities to speak of. But I could afford it and I wanted to at least build some equity. But thanks to a recent big commission on a months long project, I’ve been able to upgrade my residential Indiana HVAC situation. The HVAC professionals installed ductless heat pumps inside my house last week. I’m so thrilled that I won’t be broiling inside my home this Summer. I had been using window air conditioning but it really didn’t make much of a dent in the heat around here. With the ductless multi-split system, I get great quality heating and air that’s also super efficient since there isn’t any ductwork.
