One of my favorite places to go when in Buffalo, NY, is the Buffalo Zoo.

If my kids get bored, I pack them up in the car and take them to the zoo for the afternoon. We pack a picnic lunch and sit outside the monkey cage, eating. The last time we were there, they had two baby polar bears. They were the cutest little things I had ever seen, but my daughter was worried about them. She told me she learned in school that polar bears need cold weather, and she wondered if they could keep the temperature in their cage cold enough. It got plenty cold in Buffalo, NY during the winter, but it also got warmer in the summer. I told her I was sure they had adequate air conditioning in their enclosure. She must have thought I was talking about air conditioning like we had in the summer, in our house. I assured her it was a different type of air conditioning. It was amazing what they could do when cooling sizable areas. I pointed out the ice in the enclosure, and how they were swimming around the large pieces that looked like small glaciers. Her eyes misted when she saw the mama polar bear come over to the cubs. She told me the Buffalo Zoo was the most amazing place in the world when they could create an enclosure for baby polar bears. On our way home, all she talked about was the baby polar bears. She asked if we could get our pool cool enough for one to swim in, and I told her no. It wasn’t cold enough in Buffalo, NY for polar bears, even if they were in a pool.

When my husband moved to Chicago, IL, I was worried about the winters there.

I always heard it was super cold and there was a lot of snow because it was on the lake. We didn’t move right into Chicago, but my husband wanted to be some place that wasn’t as crowded. We found a small home in Elgin, IL. The weather was said to be cooler than most places in Illinois, and there were a lot of things for the kids. I liked that there were nature parks, and I could take the kids there without worrying. There were so many things for the entire family, which made Elgin, IL, the perfect place for us. I was still worried about the cold and windy days, but the wife of one man who worked for my husband told me it wouldn’t be that bad. She came from Florida, and was still adjusting, but the people and area made it worth the change. When I experienced my first winter, December, January, and February weren’t so bad. I came from an area that was much colder, even though it was below freezing most days. My husband asked me if I was happy living in Elgin, IL? I told him I couldn’t have chosen a nicer place to live if I had done all my research and made a choice. I loved Festival Park, and the Kane County Forest Preserve. There isn’t much I don’t like about Elgin, IL. I would choose a larger home, but we have a lease. I told my husband that I wanted to buy a house, but we had to make sure this was a permanent move before doing that.

When my girlfriend and I checked into the hotel in St.

Petersburg, Florida, I was surprised that the front desk clerk was flirting with her right in front of me.

The guy didn’t seem to be interested in my presents at all. He was flirting with my girlfriend and making lots of jokes. When my girlfriend and I got upstairs to our room, I told her that I was very unhappy about the way that the guy in the lobby had treated her. She told me that I was being irrational. She didn’t think there was anything to worry about and told me that the front desk clerk was absolutely harmless. My girlfriend and I spent all day on a boat in Tampa bay. We went fishing and caught a lot of different types of fish. We had a lot of fun, but both of us were tired by the time we got back to the St. Petersburg hotel location. We went into the hotel and the front desk clerk was still working. He waved to the two of us, but I knew that he was secretly just saying hello and flirting with my girlfriend again. When my girlfriend and I got upstairs to our room, the first thing that we noticed was the fact that the AC unit was blowing warm air. It was 80° in the room and very uncomfortable. I was going to call the front desk myself, but I thought this was the perfect opportunity for my girlfriend to use her charm and good looks to get the air conditioner fixed quickly. She got the front desk clerk to upgrade us to a suite because of the problems with the AC unit.

When my friends come to visit me in Phoenix, It can be tricky to find places that they will love.

Plus, I must consider the weather when they come because not many people are used to the desert heat.

That’s especially true when the temperatures rise into the triple digits. I have been living here for over 30 years, and I am still not used to it. Heat exhaustion is a real thing in Phoenix, so I am always aware of how much time I spend outside when the weather is hot. Over the years, I have spent a lot of time indoors in my comfortable air conditioning. But when my friends are in town, I usually plan entertainment for them. While I am comfortable at home in my A/C, I can’t expect them to do the same. One of my favorite places to take them is to Tempe Marketplace. It’s an open air shopping area that has lots of stores, bars, restaurants, events, and more. What I love about it is that it’s comfortable to walk around there. Not only are there stores with air conditioning, but there are also misters which are like outdoor cooling stations for the patrons. Another feature of the marketplace is that it has a splash pad. I have never needed to cool off in it, but there are people, especially kids who will use it as a cooling station. All in all, the marketplace is a great spot because there are lots of stores with air conditioning as well as cooling stations outside. And best of all, my friends love it and they never complained about the heat while we were there.
