I asked my sibling where she wanted to go on trip! My associate and I had taken Summer trips together since we were old enough to drive, but this year, we were planning on going to Lowell, MA… I wanted to go to the Folk Festival, which was at the end of June, however wanted to see the National Historical Park.

I told her I would hike through the park with her as long as she went to the Folk Festival with me.

My associate and I tentatively shook hands, however I knew she was wondering if I would absolutely go to the National Historical Park with her. I soon discovered that it wasn’t just a park, however a part of the neighborhood that had been restored. There was a canal walk and boat rides. There were buildings to go into, and I had to admit it was a lot of fun and interesting. I never once complained about the weather, because I wasn’t outside much, and it was 84 degrees that day. That evening, it dropped down to 67 for the Folk Festival, however it was a lot of fun. My associate and I had spent some time in the hotel with the a/c, however it already had us chilled. My associate and I needed jackets for the Folk Festival. The food was amazing, and who would have known they would have so many odd types of food. My associate and I had Portuguese, Greek, Asian, Latin, African, Brazilian, Polish and Burmese to choose from. I’m surprised we didn’t both receive ten pounds, just from eating at the Folk Festival. My associate and I loved visiting Lowell, MA.

Right before the pandemic began, my friend and I had made reservations in Lowell, MA to go see the City of Lights Parade the following year, my buddy and I didn’t know there was going to be a pandemic, or that it would change the way my friend and I did everything.

As soon as the pandemic was announced, my hubby began to fret, i was lucky to be laboring from condo and lost no income, but his business closed down for a couple of months! Since our reservations were for the end of the year, my friend and I never thought my friend and I would not be going, and by September, my friend and I got a cellphone call from the hotel telling us the Lowell City of Lights Parade had been canceled, along with all other activities.

My buddy and I were devastated, but my friend and I knew the pandemic could not last forever, and my friend and I would then once again, make reservations. It was so cold when my friend and I finally got to see the parade that I didn’t want to stand out on the chilly street. The wind was blowing, and I was shivering. My hubby could not guess my friend and I had come all this way to the Lowell City of Lights Parade, and I didn’t want to come out of the hotel. I was more than cheerful to stay in a comfy hotel and watch the parade from a distance as long as I had the Heating and A/C system blowing moderate air over me, but he wasn’t cheerful with my decision. He was aggravated my friend and I had wasted all this money for a hotel room and he would not get to see the parade. I pointed out where the parade route was, and told him this was the reason my friend and I paid so much money.

When mom and I were going to see my sister, she had her own agenda, however my pal and I came to Elgin, IL because my sister had just had her baby, it was mom’s first grandchild, and she told me she wanted to help my sister for her first two weeks at home.

I was off school until the end of June, and somehow mom was able to cajole me into driving her to Elgin and spending two weeks there with her.

I wasn’t thrilled with driving almost a thousand miles, or spending two weeks with my sister, however even though I was graduating school in the Spring, she still treated me like her little sister. My mom was reading some papers she had printed off the internet, however she told me that while we were there, she wanted to go to the Grand Victoria Casino on the Fox River. It was summer, and a tepid one that year. My sister told me the afternoon her child was born, it was 101 degrees. I couldn’t imagine being on a river boat when it was almost 100 degrees outside. Mom told me the Grand Victoria Casino had excellent air conditioning system, and it boasted more than 2 wonderful diners and drink stands. In her way, she was telling me wouldn’t be in the casino the entire afternoon. I was wondering how mom was going to get out of staying with my sister for the entire two weeks, but she did. She told her her air conditioning system was working too well, and she needed to go out and buy a jacket. My sister told her to have fun at the casino, and reminded us it was docked, so not to worry about getting seasick.
