My sister thought she knew everything there was to know about Chicago, including all the suburbs. She told me about all the wonderful touristy things to do, regardless of the time of year. I was visiting her over my spring vacation, and I was hoping to go to the beach. Unfortunately, Chicago was on the lake shore, but Alsip, where she chose to take me, was not. All she could show me were cemeteries and churches. She chose a cool, windy, and rainy day to take me to Alsip, IL. I knew she was an architecture major, but there had to be something better to do. I would have rather stayed back at her apartment where there was excellent heating to take the chill off the air. As it was, she drug me to St. Terrence Catholic Church, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Burr Oak Cemetery. The only time we weren’t out in the weather and me shivering, was when we went to a small restaurant that said they had the best cheeseburgers in Illinois. I knew they had to be lying when I bought a cheeseburger. Either I had poor taste, or the people in Illinois had bad taste, because the cheeseburger was horrible, and I only had two bites. My sister devoured hers. I finally asked if we were done being bored and asked if we could go back to her apartment. I was shivering and needed to feel the heat that I only get from a hot shower and good HVAC. She told me I was boing and we headed back to the apartment.

A lost weekend in Albuquerque
After we graduated from college, my circle of friends did our best to stay in touch with each other.
That was easier said than done! Between starting careers and having families, there just wasn’t much time left over for long-distance friendships.
Isn’t being an adult the worst? Eventually we decided to take action. Once a year, every year, the old crew meets up in a new place for what we call a “Lost Weekend.” These weekends are all about drinking, smoking cannabis, and catching up on old times. Last year we went to Albuquerque, New Mexico for our Lost Weekend. We selected Albuquerque for many excellent reasons, but the biggest one was it’s legendary locally grown cannabis. Albuquerque is also the home of the biggest and most beautiful hot air balloon festival in the world. If that wasn’t enough, there are three different restaurants in Albuquerque that have been awarded a Michelin star for their cuisine. Throw in a few cases of Albuquerque Snake Juice, which is a locally bottled craft beer, we were all set for the best weekend ever. Although we all had driven to Albuquerque, once we got there we left the cars in the garage and took an Uber anywhere we needed to go. High quality cannabis and beer are both legal and easy to find in Albuquerque, but don’t let the cops catch you driving under the influence! Albuquerque has a sterling reputation for being a peaceful, safe place to live, so the cops don’t like tourists getting loaded and messing up their little slice of paradise.
How much marijuana can I buy?
I had heard much scuttle about being able to grow marijuana, but I didn’t want to grow.
All I wanted was to make a purchase and have enough to last me for a couple of weekends.
Half an ounce of marijuana would be a good amount, I thought. I was going to the nearest Denver, CO marijuana sales business, and it was twenty miles away from where I lived. I didn’t like driving, so I wanted enough to get me through for a while. I was still laughing over how they called recreational marijuana retail marijuana, but I was no longer living in another state. There we called recreational marijuana recreational, but I was also okay with retail marijuana. I drove into Denver and walked into the retail marijuana sales business and asked how much marijuana I can buy. They asked for identification to prove I was twenty-one, and then he answered. He told me I could have two ounces in my personal home, as long as my landlord permitted the use of marijuana on his premises. It took me aback at that amount of marijuana, but I told the salesperson I thought it was a good amount. He told me I couldn’t have it open in the car, and I should wait until I got home to open the package. I knew there were places in Denver where I could use marijuana, but I was more interested in using it at home. I thanked him for his help and made my purchase. I could smell the marijuana all the way from Denver, to my home.
The sunshine and heat were relentless
Last June, my sister and I spent a week in Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix is about 6 hours away from the city where my sister and I live. We decided to spend a week in Phoenix at a hotel. My sister and I made reservations. We each got a room of our own. We were right in the heart of the city. We started our week off by visiting some of the tourist attractions in the city. We went to the zoo and we went to the Desert Botanical garden. The Desert Botanical Garden was one of the coolest places that I have ever visited. My sister and I spent all day there. It was extremely hot and humid. We saw lots of different types of cacti and succulents. At the end of the day, I was very tired and ready to go back to our hotel room. We grabbed a couple of pizzas from a place close to the hotel. The pizza place was supposed to be one of the best places to get a slice of pizza in all of Phoenix, arizona. When my sister and I returned to our hotel room, we were aggravated to find no cool air in the room at all. After spending all day in the heat, I was looking forward to a break. The air conditioner would not work no matter what we tried to do to fix the problem. I contacted the front desk of the hotel. I told the guy at the desk that the air conditioner wasn’t working. He sent a maintenance staff person to fix the air conditioner.
