Moving to Tampa from the north

I lived the first forty-five years of my life in the northeastern area of the country.

I was accustomed to sub zero temperatures and feet of snow accumulation.

My home was equipped with a furnace that typically ran for eith months out of the year. I never bothered with central air conditioning. For the brief summer months, a window AC unit was sufficient. I was never happy about the long, cold winters. I spent a lot of time shoveling the driveway, brushing snow off the car and scraping ice off the windshield. I invested a significant amount of money in a snow plowing service, snow shovels, ice scrapers, rock salt, heavy boots and winter gear. When my job switched to working online, I was eager to relocate. I researched different areas in Florida and ultimately chose Tampa. The average low rarely dips below seventy degrees while the high soars into the nineties. I love the heat and don’t mind the humidity. The blue skies, endless sunshine and palm trees make me feel happy, healthy and full of energy. I am delighted to have quick and easy access to the coast. However, the high temperatures and humidity have been an adjustment. I learned how to dress to keep cool and have gotten better about applying sunblock. My new home is equipped with central air conditioner with no source of heating. After paying some especially high electric bills, I invested into a whole-home dehumidifier. With the dehumidifier extracting excess moisture, I’m able to set a higher thermostat setting and yet enjoy superior comfort.
