Investing heavily into an efficient furnace

The summers in Sious Falls, South Dakota, are my favorite time of year.

The temperature typically climbs into the mid to upper eighties during the day and cools down to the low or mid sixties at night.

Humidity levels are reasonable, making the conditions perfect for outdoor activities. There is a lot of opportunities to enjoy the fresh air in Sioux Falls. Just a short commute northeast from the city in Palisades State Park, where Split Rock Creek offers paddle boarding and quartzite formations provide scenic overlooks. Fifty-foot vertical cliffs are great for rock climbing. Split Rock Lake is another popular destination, offering a lovely sand beach, swimming and picnic areas. Unfortunately, the gorgeous weather doesn’t last long. For approximately six months of the year, Sioux Falls is cold and snowy. We expect to deal with temperatures in the single or even negative digits during the winter. The wind chill is positively brutal, and we accumulate an avery of 45.3 inches of snow annually. We spend a great deal of time and effort plowing the driveway, brushing snow off the car, scraping off of the windshield and shoveling walkways. The cost of keeping a warm and comfortable home is significant. I have never bothered with a central air conditioning system. It’s not necessary. We manage just fine with window air conditioners. However, I invested into a top-of-the-line, state-of-the-art, high efficiency gas furnace. The heater utilizes variable-speed technology to automatically adapt output to the demands of the home and achieve a 98% AFUE rating. I make a point to replace the air filter every four to six weeks and schedule professional maintenance every fall. I want the furnace to last as long as possible.
